Патофизиологическое воздействие, происходящее в результате протекания электрического тока через тело человека или животного.
Прикосновения человека и животных к опасным токоведущим частям или к открытым проводящим частям, находящимся под напряжением, превышающем сверхнизкое напряжение, могут сопровождаться протеканием через их тела опасных электрических токов. Воздействия этих электрических токов на организмы человека и животных могут вызывать различные физиологические повреждения, включая такие, которые не совместимы с их жизнью. Указанные воздействия в национальной нормативной и правовой документации называют поражением электрическим током.
